Celluloid Tunes # 48: The 10 Best Scores of 2016 (15th International Edition)

For the fourth year in a row, we pick our top 10 favourite scores of the year. While there weren’t a lot of big Hollywood scores that impressed us very much, there were quite a few ‘alternative’ approaches and especially electronic landscapes that really stood out. We do encourage everyone to give us their own favourites in the comments field.

Oh, I forgot to write my name, Cristian 🙂

      Thanks for your list, Cristian.

We do have SOME overlap, in addition to THE HANDMAIDEN. Both PASSENGERS and THE YOUNG MESSIAH were among my runner-ups, and I also liked FANTASTIC BEASTS (albeit slightly uneven compared to the brilliant sound clips that were released before the soundtrack).

You’re right that I like electronic scores just as much as I do orchestral scores. 🙂

  2. Fredrik Sellevold sier:

    Thanks for another episode!
I just have two questions: First, when will you publish the list of tracks you played? And second, what’s this about Moribito? The anime by that name is very good, but ten years old, so that can’t be what you’re referring to.

    1. tjhaga sier:

      Thanks, Fredrik!

I have a new episode coming up today, so I will publish both the playlist for that and this one then.

MORIBITO is a 2016 live action TV version of the animé series from 2009(?):

I realized now it’s for TV, so it falls outside the scope of feature films, but oh well.
