Celluloid Tunes # 57: Trevor Rabin in Oslo (19th International Edition)

On June 7th, legendary prog band Yes visited Oslo for their 50th anniversary tour, including longtime member Trevor Rabin. The South African composer and guitarist is also a renowned film composer, so we had the opportunity to sit down for a 30 minute talk about his career so far — encompassing famous hits such as Armageddon, Enemy of the State, Deep Blue Sea, Con Air, Snakes on a Plane and more. Ranging from power anthems to undiluted orchestral Americana, Rabin is one of the most recognizable composers in Hollywood, and a longtime collaborator of super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer (counting 13 films so far).

    Hi Thor,
Thank you for an insightful and comprehensive interview with Mr Rabin. A long-time Yes fan, I stumbled on this site/link and am glad I did. Your knowledge of the material is encyclopedic — very impressive — and your handling of the interview sympathetic, respectful and highly illuminating. I am a music fan, rather than a film buff, but it was a wonderful hour’s listening — thank you! E

Much appreciated, Emma. He’s such a sympathetic fellow!

  2. Matthew Silver sier:

Great interview! Excellent questions you ask … thanks so much!

  3. Trevor Rabin sier:

It has been suggested that YES(ARW) might be ending due to comments within this interview.
I want to make it very clear that it is not the case.
Rick Jon and I didn’t come into ARW in a vacuum.
We were all very busy. Other career interests don’t just disappear. We all fully intend to carry on doing what we were doing while putting full energy into YES.

    1. Thor Joachim Haga sier:

Indeed, Trevor. This was an interview primarily about your film work, so it was natural to ask about your future in that arena. I never got the impression in our talk that the Yes gigs were winding down. Quite the contrary. Thanks for a great Oslo concert, btw.
