Interesting question. Probably higher than you as I don’t know as many composers as you do.
I wouldn’t rank her higher than Bernard Herrmann or John Barry, just to name two other British composers. But I would rank her higher than David Arnold and Angelo Badalamenti.
Probably even better than Michael Kamen. Better than Maurice Jarre? Tough choice. But probably not.
Thinking about these things I realize, that it is a difference to judge the quality of a composers music or to decide which composer is in your personal favourites.
It’s like being a fan of punk music. You know, it’s just three chords and always the same. But you chose it as your favourite because you feel it belongs to you somehow. It represents you, it fits to you. Even though you would admit that there is better music in the world.
In that sense I rather listen to Dudley than to Jarre. But he is surely the better composer.
Given that she would probably live in waiting room #2.
