Reply To: What is your favourite soundtrack record label?
(which is why I’d say La-La Land releases are about as close as possible in the film score world to get anyone whatever they want as seems humanly possible in the real world).
I think ‘real world’ is the key word here. My suggested compromise solution of having two separate soundtrack releases does not belong in the real world. It’s simply not feasible. It’s easier for labels to include everything in the same package.
So we’re operating more out of a hypothetical “I wish” scenario, based purely on personal preference. I think it’s an egoistic enterprise, in some way – because you want things exactly as YOU want them, it’s not interesting what everyone else wants. That doesn’t have to carry negative value connotations, it’s just the way we orient ourselves in our daily lives.
Meanwhile, in the real world, labels choose their profiles, and none of us have any saying in the matter. LLL has chosen C&C. Caldera and MM have chosen a more curated angle. Other labels have both. So we gravitate towards what we prefer of those choices. I do recognize that LLL’s OST+C&C variant is a real-world compromise solution, it’s just not one that fits my wishful preference.
