Reply To: Talk about FILMS you’ve just seen!
I’ve had two screenings this week:
Guy Ritchie’s IN THE GREY, which is sort of a heist film, but with a LOT of planning. There’s some “here and now” action towards the end, but it’s mostly a film about plans, and how they’re going to do this and that, with montages, superimposed text, charts and routes and information. Very weird. But I’ve always been a closet Ritchie fan, and love the energy he brings to the table. Props to Jake Gyllenhaal for understated intensity. Chris Benstead’s score was rather forgettable.
Today was Curry Baker’s somewhat buzz horror OBSESSION (no relation to the De Palma). Kind of a cross between WHAT WOMEN WANT, FATAL ATTRACTION and paranormal “hex” shenanigans. Powerhouse performance by Inde Navarrette (no relation to Javier) as the possessed girl. And relies more on real-world horror than jump scares and demons. I kinda liked it, although was somewhat put off by the mumblecore dialogue and weird behaviour. Ziterhing electronic score by Rock Burwell (presumably no relation to Carter).
