I’m a bit like Malte – I also rarely listen to the lyrics when there are songs in film. At least I try not to. Sometimes, I can’t help but noticing overlap between scene and what they’re singing about. But yes, just as when I listen to pop albums, singing is just another instrumental colour to me.
