Don’t get me wrong. This pointing out of similarities is in no way any kind of criticism from my end. It is usually my first reaction to any new musical piece to think about what it reminds me of. As soon as I got that out of the way, I can enjoy the new piece better on its own.
And there are worse references than Angela’s Ashes.

Of course I remember. Didn’t you just mention it this week in the listening project thread? It is definitely a great score. One of the few Williams works which has a chamber music quality to it.
