The bouncy Main Theme of Bonfire puts me in mind of Defending Your Life by Michael Gore and some Marc Shaiman stuff.
Interesting link that hadn’t occured to me before. DEFENDING was another one of those I owned, but sold off and regret now. Interestingly, the film has been frequently pulled off the shelves in various “Criterion Closet” videos recently, so between that and your mention, I should give it another go. And – as I said – BONFIRE.
As for Williams and Grusin, there are definitely links there that have never been mentioned in interviews and the like (obviously something like “Banning Back Home” from HOOK, but it probably goes even further back….is there Grusin in CINDERELLA LIBERTY, for example? I’m thinking more Isaac Hayes and Curtis Mayfield and other popular funk at the time, more than Grusin).
