Jazz has been, through its history, folk, popular, and art music.

I find the improvisational nature/focus of jazz sets it appart from the others. Of course there is no “jazz” or any type anymore, actually there are crossovers influences all over the place.

And Classical music often was the popular music of its time – after all Baroque music was played in the background of “parties” – and you could say that early classical music like renaissance lute music is basically folk music. Bascially the root of any music is “folk” because that was what it is first before it divided.
