Amazon Prime has loads of sci-fi B movies, both old and new, and since I’m fond of vintage sci-fi I thought I’d give this one a try. It’s a Roger Corman production from 1981 (with a young James Cameron as production designer an second unit director) and is basically a blatant ALIEN rip-off: A spaceship lands on a planet, finds a huge, ancient derelict full of horrors, and the crew is picked off one by one. Expectations weren’t high, but several elements – dialogue, characterizations, effects and set design – were actually a few notches above hopeless. But the editing was very choppy and seemed to leave out scenes that were supposed to be there. The weirdest and most disturbing thing in it was what I think was supposed to be a rape scene between an alien monster and a female crew member.
