Reply To: Your Film Music Origin Story
A thread on FSM (by Zooba, of all people, once every hundred threads he does, there’s a worthwhile one) about what your first John Williams soundtrack was. It made me think. I think it must be JURASSIC PARK. Before I could save up enough allowance money to buy it on CD, a friend of mine bought it instead, so I copied it to cassette from him, and played that cassette to death until I succumbed and bought a CD of my own, some time in the late 90s.
But that doesn’t really count, since it was a copy, does it? Nor do possible single tracks I had on mixed tapes and compilations. On CD, it might very well be the compilation FILMWORKS (which has since left my collection, annoyingly), but that can’t be it. Too late. 1995. It must be something earlier. The Arista STAR WARS box? That was probably 1995 too. If not, it could possibly be CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, in 1993/94, which I got via mail order.
But this proves again how difficult it is to remember “firsts”, at least for me. Which is why origin stories like these are difficult to make.
