Actually, one of my gateways into film music was a series of reel-to-reel tapes of TV themes that my older brother compiled. My parents were in the biz, and my Dad had a nice tube hi-fi with two Wollensak reel recorders. My brother would tape themes on one machine, and then bounce them to second to edit them in the order he wanted. He is 8 years older than I, so I ended up being exposed to themes from shows that were before my time. One theme that made a huge impression on me at that time was Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Imagine my disappointment when I finally caught some episodes decades later. That glorious theme is way out of proportion to the writing and production values encountered on Irwin Allen shows.
