Principally, I think electronic products should last 10 years, minimum, but I realize they’re not designed that way.
Sometimes they do. Until end of 2024 I worked with an iMac from 2011 including the original internal harddrive. It still works great but the lack of updates forced me to finally buy a new one. The longest time I ever used a computer actively. Harddrives – especially classic mechanical, non SSD ones – are said to have a lifespan from 5-10 years indeed which depends on the usage and other factors naturally.
