When I was re-enflamed for Elman after experiencing his violin concerto I was almost blindly buying Elfman scores under the assumption, that there is always a certain musical quality and originality to them. But I quickly got a little bored of his typical humptahumpta title themes. And for most of the rather busy Elfman score I usually just listen to the first two thirds of the album because for the last third I am often too exhausted. And seldomly I find Elfman’s showdown music appealing. Usually it rather annoys me. I am more a fan of Elfman’s concert work. That I usually enjoy from beginning to end.
