Sorry to hear about the death of Mark Rydell, although 97 is incredibly good innings.
The Rydell/Williams collaboration is excellent – THE COWBOYS, THE REIVERS, CINDERELLA LIBERTY and THE RIVER. All wonderful Americana scores, both urban and rural. And then there’s that great scene in Altman’s THE LONG GOODBYE where Rydell plays a mafia boss, and has a young Arnold Schwarzenegger as his bodyguard. A meeting ground between Williams, Altman, Rydell and Schwarzenegger. Surreal.
We probably wouldn’t have had a Spielberg/Williams collaboration without him.
