Reply To: Bear McCreary
I have the album digitally. It’s a best of season 1-7 actually already. Besides the main theme/motive it is not that memorable as other McCrearys. But it is not that bad. It is scored for some solo woodwinds and strings, lots of electric guitars and electric banjo, drum kit, bass, his hurdy gurdy of course and synths (especiallay later on). And indeed there is real string orchestra. There are shades of southern US blues influences hidden within.
It’s actually quite moody and often quite calm although due to the serie’s topic rather unsettling and unpleasant. There are some nice more “melodic” tracks primarily with strings:
“Message to Morgan”
“Sophia”
“Eulogy”
“Carl”
“Bye, Baby Bunting” “Vocal Raya Yarbough”
“The Day Will Come”
And there is already that McCreary metal rock vibe for the action scenes at times, too, that is not that memorable in general:
“Coalescence”
“Farm Invasion”
Later seasons were not fully scored by McCreary himself but some of his staff, later seasons named actually the additional or even main composer(s) if I recall right. It got more synth and far less interessting.
