I remember being in a classrom of my primary school, although I was clearly at university level and within Media Studies. The “class” was divided into groups and seated at different tables. At my table were some 4-5 students. Suddenly, Mr. Williams entered the room – to much applause – and seated himself at MY table!! I couldn’t believe it! And this was no dream either, I was confident (;))! His objective was to offer advise and talk to us about our upcoming master theses. I was to write a master thesis about film music (which is the truth) and the guy next to me was to write one about Vålerenga Football Club, a national football team (don’t ask me what that has to do with Media Studies). I tried my best to tell him about my thesis – even hinting at my preference for his music, although in a moderate manner. I didn’t want to sound like a “fanboy” or whatever Ford Thaxton derogatorily calls us. In short: While I obviously thought my topic selection would spark a greater interest with him, I tried to remain a professional academic.

Much to my dismay, though, Williams didn’t really listen to what I had to say and proceeded to elaborate – in a weird Norwegian-American accent – on how to write about Vålerenga Football Club. Oh no! He had mistaken me for that other guy next to me…

And that’s about it!

Well, I had another Elfman dream last night.

I was suddenly sitting in a sofa in the corner of a huge stage on which Oingo Boingo was performing. A few other fans were sitting next to me. The weirdest thing, though, was the fact that this was ca. 1984, and I was a visitor from 2003. The girl sitting next to me was a visitor from 1999.

Anyway, as the song finished, a young Elfman walked towards us in the sofa while the crowd was sheering. It was obviously a break of some sort. I stood up and began talking to him in casual, non-fanboyish manner:

– “Hi there. Great concert. Are you pleased so far?”

– “Oh yes. Who are you?”

– “Oh, I’m just a visitor from 2003. IS there anything you’d like to know about the future?”

– “Yeah”, Elfman replied, “did George W. Bush ever manage to become president?”

– “Oh yes”.

To that reply, everyone – including Elfman and the girl from 1999 (who was not so interesting anymore, as I was more “futurey” than her) seemed amazed.

And that’s about it.
