I’m shocked to read that Nick Glennie-Smith has died, age 74. There are no news items about it, but Stéphane Humez, who’s close to the Zimmer circle, just posted it on JWFAN. There’s also a post on FSM. So I assume it’s true and not some ‘death hoax’.

If it’s true, it’s very sad. Of all the composers who came out of Zimmer’s stable, he’s one of my top, top favourites. Just recently, I discovered his excellent library music from the 80s and 90s, and posted about it in the “Library Music” thread, and of course there are the scores he did individually (like THE LION KING 2 and THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK), as well as co-composing tracks on Zimmer soundtracks. Like my alltime favourite Zimmer score, BEYOND RANGOON, where NGS co-wrote the showpiece track “I Dreamt I Woke Up”. And most of THE ROCK, obviously.
