Neurosurgery also takes a lot of dedication to study, it takes a lot of understanding to operate on the human brain, it requires steady hands, deep anatomical knowledge, and years of strict training. Yet it’s neither original nor “art”, in fact, if I ever require neurosurgery, I want my surgeon to be a devoted, level headed professional, and not someone who harbors the secret ambition to make a personal artistic expression with that surgery. Just because something requires technical proficiency doesn’t mean it’s art, let alone “great art”.

So I stand by what I said, that a composer who is totally un-original, bereft of any ideas of his own, is not ever going to be considered a great, or even good composer. Certainly not by me, but probably by few others as well.
