Dimitri Tiomkin was perhaps the first film composer I knew by name, definitely one of the first, along with maybe Henry Mancini and Lalo Schifrin.

Dimitri Tiomkin was also the first film composer whose film scores I noticed in the movie, when I watched THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY and HIGH NOON as a kid. Tiomkin was a wonderful composer, inventive, bold. One of my favorite Tiomkin scores is GUNFIGHT AT THE OK CORRAL.
