I have never dealt much with CD-Rs for audio CDs. I have a few of rare or hard to get releases, but by far most of them have eventually been replaced by actual CD releases of the stuff. However, the CD-Rs I do have, as far as I ever got to check on them in between, were all fine, never had one go out on me. And they are all twenty years old or more.
As far as music is concerned, all my music is now digital files, so that’s about the safest you can have it. It’s easily backed up and regularly verified with a hash strategy, so if even a single bit would ever flip anywhere, I’d know about it.
