I only have rudimentary basic notation knowledge and get a basic impression from a melody written or so. But I cannot read and “hear” the music by reading it. And for sure not full scores (although I like looking at them).

I was forced to play recorder – the cheap plastic one I still own – in 5th/6th grade in school and actually music in school did drive me a bit away from music and especially classical music. In the early grades I already liked pop film themes like the Bond themes but I was more into charts… Appreciating classical did only start when I got really into film scores end of the 80s.

I do regret that I didn’t take piano lessons when my parents offered to pay for them but as mentioned I had no real interest in practicing especially (and now I also don’t ;-)). This all didn’t keep me from amateurishly dabbling around with music via computer. First using the C-64 by even coding in Basic, then the Amiga 500 (Soundtracker program) and then on Mac. I even actually do have a small MIDI keyboard and Logic Pro now.
