I’ve been watching IT: WELCOME TO DERRY, which just finished its first season. Pretty good show; Muschietti is still one of the best horror directors around.
But what struck me is the long title sequence, which is rather uncommon these days. It usually hits after a gruesome prologue, and with its use of the upbeat 1956 song “A Smile and a Ribbon” by Patience & Prudence, stands in grim contrast to what we’ve seen. The ambigous animated panes – that also increase in violence – are also cool. An analysis could be made, in how the lyrics synch up to the violent visuals.
However, what’s interesting is that I find myself zoning out a bit during this bit. I thought I was immune to contemporary impatience, but appears I’m also affected by it in this streaming day of ours (where the “skip intro” button is not far away).
But gotta salute them for going against the grain.
