Returned from what turned out to be a longer Christmas holiday than usual (almost a week), and now gearing up for New Year’s. Cleaned the apartment, cleaned myself, poured myself a beer. In the last few years, I’ve enjoyed spending New Year’s alone. I know what you think, but I don’t really consider that “sad” at all, I have plenty of other social events during and around Christmas time.

I’ve planned a great dinner – oven-roasted pork tenderloin (sprinkled with garlic, pepper, salt), with bretagne sauce, potatoes, asparagus and a sprinkle of champignons and onions on top. Plenty of beer, wine and a tiny bottle of champagne which I will pop when I ascend a nearby hilltop at midnight to watch the fireworks. Otherwise watching telly (the King’s televised speech at 7.30!), listening to music and tuning in online for the day.
