it’s nowhere near as good as JAWS

I mean, what is?

Even though I am a big John Williams fan I am not sure if I would call his horror related scores like Jaws, The Fury or Dracula really horror scores. In a way they are too good, too sophisticated. Like the whole genre is kind of a b-movie genre the score should be somehow “cheap”.
Even when it is orchestral.
In that sense the two composers who best manage to bring some orchestral sophistication to horror and still stay true to the genre are Christopher Young and the early James Horner.
