I regularly rummage through my FSM topic archives to find earlier threads of mine I can ressurect here, and I often bump into threads that could easily fit into some we already have. So while there’s no point in ressurecting it on its own, here’s one that touches on the issue of film music vs. classical music, “Classical Film Music Prototypes” (April 25, 2013), wherein I mention Paul Dukas’ THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE as a pre-1896 prototype of how film music would be. Not a lot of replies there, but some interesting other suggestions as well.
Although these classical pieces didn’t have to adher to the split timings of a film, many of them have the DNA of filmic specificity.
