I’d say so, yes. Opera and ballet too, but mostly those tone poem-style pieces. It’s not accidental, I think, that FANTASIA 2000 used Respighi’s very film music-like PINES OF ROME for a sequence (although I had never made the WHALE connection they did). Of course, that doesn’t really qualify in this context, since it premiered in 1924, when film music was already an established thing. The idea of that thread was pre-1896 titles.
