For a film score I would say, we have basically three dimensions.
– The fashion in orchestral music at the time when the score was written
– The musical tradition and fashion of time and place where the film’s story is set.
– and a musical style connotated with the films genre like drama, action, thriller, comedy etc.

Because of the first point it probably makes little sense to compare 20th century film music with 18th century symphonic music. Certain stylistic elements find their way from conte.porary orchestral music into film scores. In orchestral film scores rarely something was invented. Maybe cartoon music is something that you hardly find outside of film music.
Apart from that I don’t know.
