Apart from over or underrated I find these director composer pairs especially interesting when (of course according to my personal taste) these collaborations fruited in extraordinarily good scores and I consider the composers work for that particular director better than his usual other works. Like I still think, that Shyamalan evoked Newton Howard’s best scores, same for Marianelli/Wright (except the gorgeous Jane Eyre which might be my favourite Marianelli score, but it was another director).

For example, I wouldn’t callJohn Williams’ scores for Spielberg better than his works for other directors. He more or less delivered brillant scores (and not so brillant ones) in every field.
