I actually agree with Nick on this point, but I have a slight reservation through experience. I listen to Classic FM whilst driving, and about half the pieces aren’t introduced before being played. Every so often a piece that I don’t know will come on unannounced, and I think “that sounds like a film score”, and I’m generally correct.

That leads me to wonder if there might be something intrinsic in the phrasing, or the instrumentation (although they rarely play an original piece of course, usually an orchestral cover) or some other feature that distinguishes film music from the concert hall variety.
