Cool that your friend has a podcast! Madrudaga and Sivert Høyem are quite popular in Norway, although mostly for my generation (their guitarist, Robert Burås, died in 2007, which got a lot of attention in the media). I’ve never been a big fan myself, I was always out of touch with the pop and rock music that came out in my formative years in the 90s, but I did see Madrugada live at a festival just one year after Burås had died.
