And yes, I’m aware I run into trouble when the composition/publication date is vague or even unknown. I probably just put a blank year then.

The oldest music in my collection with a date is the aforementioned Banchieri piece/album (1605). But the oldest music in my collection, period, is probably this CD in the Harmonia Mundi set:

I’ve NOT split this CD up, I’ve let it be as is, sorted under “Diverse (klassisk)” (“Various (classical)”) as album artist. But even if I HAD split it up, it would be difficult to date, as a lot of medieval music is hard to pinpoint. We know Hildegard von Bingen’s birth and death year, but not when she composed these pieces, in particular. But thankfully, these are exceptions. Most of the time, we do have some form of year.
