I did touch on the ‘genre’ aspect in the very first post. But to elaborate a bit, right now it looks like this in my iTunes (yes, it does support different genres):

You see the genres on the left-hand side and how many in each. I made a stupid decision early on – to eschew ‘pop’ as a genre altogether and just put everything that was ‘pop’ in ‘rock’. The fewer genres, the better, I thought. Of course, it led me into all kinds of problems. For example, I have a-ha sorted under ‘rock’ now. And for a while there, I even had Enya sorted under ‘rock’. Ridiculous. I since moved her to ‘Electronic’, which makes at least a little more sense. But one of these days, I need to go through my collection and add the appropriate pop tag to certain albums.
