Don’t worry, I’ll figure it out eventually.

Ah, dammit! Insurance, it was. My bad.

We’ve mentioned Power Glove a few times before (Ryan brought them up too, in another thread), but this 2019 album – a studio album, not a score – is well worth mentioning. Great, funky-moody stuff!

          Does this thread include classical-ish?

          Cover Ancient and Modern

Not really, but that’s a great concept album by Anne Dudley, that combines several idioms beyond classical. So I’d say it qualifies. And good to see you make a post, Alex.

THor, I fear you need to buy another book soon:
“Machines – A History Of Electronic Music by Jean-Michel Jarre”

Yes, I saw that on Facebook and Instagram. I’d rather just have a Jarre bio, and I’m more into the aesthetics of it all than the tech stuff, but it certainly sounds interesting and educational. But what’s the deal with Pete Townshend sneaking his way into all things electronic (he also appeared on Jarre’s ELECTRONICA project)? Yes, I know The Who used synths, but are they really considered pioneers in that area? I don’t get it.

It as you who recommnended Ancient and Modern at JWFan, Thor. And I quite like it. BTW, track 6, The Holly and the Ivy, which is cited as a traditional but sounds like film music, strongly reminds me of the style of Richard Robbins, except then for the muted French Horns. Did you notice this too? I mean, if I heard that in a movie and I didn’t know who composed the score, I would have placed a lot of money on Robbins.

Anyway, do you know of other similar ventures by Anne Dudley? Because looking at her discography on Spotify, I see that most of her albums are soundtracks.

I guess from his point of view the techical stuff is inseparable from the asthetics. A bio would surely be nice, too.

                Anne Dudley

A composer I really want to explore more at some time. I know a bit Art Of Noise and a few scores only.

That Robbins link didn’t occur to me, but you’re right — has some of those lofty minimalist vibes.

As for other Dudley solo albums (other than film music and Art of Noise), she released CROSSING THE BAR fairly recently, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. I think she also did some library music, that I’d love to check out, and post about in the library music thread.

110 dollars for the Jarre book, madness.

                  Cheaper here:

Jarre HAS written an autobiography, but it’s only in french.

Joe Jackson has got a new album out. He was one of my very first musical heroes. The third Pop album I ever bought was his “Night And Day”.

He made some great albums in the past 20 years. The new one isn’t his best, but it’s definitely a grower. As usual.

I love the shoegaze genre. This is a new band from Malaysia (!), sounding ace.

A few words about the upcoming album INTERNAL AFFAIRS 2: Diplomatic Immunity… The promised album didn’t come out in the fall or winter (2025–2026). In one of the comments under his Instagram video, Mr. Glass once again “promised” that the album would be released this year, and no later than the “release of GTA 6.” (That’s almost a direct quote from him.) In other words, he promises to release it no later than November 2026.
So… we’ll wait… and someday it will finally come out. The first album turned out to be very good and popular!
