GerateWohlParticipantA friend of mine recently mentioned the game HITSTER. It seems to be kind of a music quiz. There is also a TV show about it. In the cardboard version there are several editions for specific genres. Also a soundtrack edition exists. Anybody ever played it? And is this also a thing outside Germany? Probably yes. I can’t imagine something like this being invented here.

Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterI think I vaguely played that at some party awhile back (is there an app version?), but I’m not sure. At the very least I’ve heard about it….vaguely.

Malte MüllerKeymasterI indeed played it last year the first time. The standard edition but not the soundtrack one. To my own surprise I did rather well…

GerateWohlParticipantI think, I will get the soundtrack edition. Then I can share how it is.

Malte MüllerKeymasterOh yes, please do so! I found it quite fun even with the standard one.

Nicolai P. ZwarParticipantI did play it a couple of times, last year with a befriended couple. To my own great surprise, I actually won!
There are a few rules and this and that, but the basic concept goes like this:
You hear a clip from a song (there are cards with codes that are scanned to play the clip from Spotify) and you place that song where you think is the correct spot in relation to other songs on a timeline. Now naturally, this is easy at first (say, you hear a Lady Gaga song, and then a Beatles song, and then a Madonna song, chances are you know that Beatles is older than Madonna is older than Lady Gaga), but the more songs are “on the table” so to speak, the more difficult it will be to place a song exactly before or after the other songs on a timeline. Other players can challenge and check whether your placement is correct to score or lose points.
It’s a fun game, we played the “regular” edition. (I suppose if there’s an actual film music edition, most “civilians” would not have a chance against us.. but would of course be a great game to play in this crowd here. 🙂 )12. April 2026 at 13:51 #10047
Malte MüllerKeymasterThere is a soundtrack edition. I bet it consists primarily film songs and some well known themes. GerateWohl will surely report 😉

Jon AanensenParticipantYes I have played it. It’s good fun.
I have also bought the soundtrack edition, but haven’t played that one yet.12. April 2026 at 18:02 #10061
Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterThanks for that description, Nick. It made me suddenly remember where I played it. It was on September 6th last year, according to my calendar, at a cabin up in the mountains, where I was celebrating the 50th birthdays of some of my mates. On that evening, one of them brought this game up. I think he played music clips via his phone (Blutooth-connected to a speaker), and we all had cards. I also remember winning it now, despite having appaling knowledge of post-2000 pop music. But the others had limited knowledge on pre-80s music, and that’s where I shine, so that saved me.

Nils Jacob Holt HanssenParticipantYes, I’ve played it a few times, both at gatherings at work and with friends. But I’ve never done very well, as it’s usually been about newer pop music, where I’m totally lost. Next time, I’ll suggest the soundtrack edition. That’ll teach them. Ha! 😉

Nicolai P. ZwarParticipantI know that the soundtrack edition has one card with this cue:
