I think Always is the only Spielberg Williams I don’t have in any form…
11. May 2026 at 18:45 #10954Is there a better name for Williams’ fun themes? You know, like ‘Follow me’ (Always), ‘The Tennis Game’, ‘Jim’s New Life’, ‘Tourists On The Menu’, etc ….
Often but not always these fun themes accompeny montage scenes.
Two of my favourites are E.T.’s Halloween and Growing Up from Superman.11. May 2026 at 19:18 #10957I often refer to that William style as ‘jaunty’. I love it 👍
11. May 2026 at 19:37 #10958Basically he exercised a lot of it in his 60s comedy scores.
11. May 2026 at 19:53 #10960Exuberant?
11. May 2026 at 19:54 #10961Jolly?
One thing we can be sure of, there will not be a ‘jolly theme’ on the Disclosure soundtrack. We are living in different times now.
11. May 2026 at 19:58 #10963Rhapsodic? Vivacious?
11. May 2026 at 20:28 #10967Scherzo mode
22. May 2026 at 17:37 #11259I’ve received a press screening date – June 8th. Not long now.
22. May 2026 at 18:37 #11272Will you have a non-DISCLOSURE agreement for some time or will you tell all right away 😉 To do some speculation I would love to see some references to CLOSE ENCOUNTERS in the score.
22. May 2026 at 19:16 #11281There will definitely be a non-DISCLOSURE agreement to sign, yes, and only limited things to say before the actual premiere. 🙂
I like that Stephen Colbert called it ‘beautiful’ in the recent interview with Spielberg. Gives me hope that it’s more than just droney, low-register stuff.

On these talk shows you never know what is scripte PR and what not. But let’s hope since it was the last show 😉
3. June 2026 at 10:48 #11755It was the world premiere yesterday, in Paris, and JWFAN and other places are (understandably) going nuts with details and buzz. Even a couple of brief music clips, lots of videos, plenty of SoMe posts from critics and audiences and so on. The music clips sounded gorgeous (heavy shades of A.I., incidentally, just as were doing a thread on that). Could it be the most hyped film of the year? Or maybe it’s just because I walk in circles where this particular title gets extra notice?
But I have to patient until Monday morning. I’d like to go in as fresh as possible. So should probably tune out until then.
3. June 2026 at 14:34 #11766It is surely especially hyped in our cirlce because of the – once again possibly but hopefully not last – score by Williams for Spielberg or anyone else… I have to say this hypes it for me a bit. Otherwise probably can wait until it appears somewhere else…
3. June 2026 at 23:23 #11780Prepare for the 2-stage avalanche of score reviews for the release and the race to see who can publish a review of the album first.
4. June 2026 at 07:52 #11785Any thoughts on thefirst published track from the soundtrack?
I am getting ANGELA’S ASHES vibes from this.
4. June 2026 at 09:21 #11788Definitely! And a pretty obvious hint of “Cinque’s Theme”/AMISTAD in the beginning of the phrase. I absolutely adore it. If this is representative, it might be his best score since 2005.
(ha, I see that was already pointed out by someone on JWFAN….too late again!).
4. June 2026 at 10:49 #11791Heard that track on jwfan https://jwfan.com/john-williams-disclosure-day-2026-all-we-know-so-far/ yesterday. Nothing you heard before like Thor says but great unmistakable Williams. Hope however there is a bit more than this in the score and some Close Encounters tonalities maybe. We’ll see and here.
4. June 2026 at 11:15 #11792As I said, kind of a more varied version of Angela’s Prayers.
Even the variations remind me of it partly.
4. June 2026 at 13:34 #11796I only heard the 1:30 sample but yeah. Even the Angela’s Ashes theme reminds of other Williams themes in a similar manner. Which is not a bad thing at all.
4. June 2026 at 13:36 #11798As I said, kind of a more varied version of Angela’s Prayers.
As you may or may not remember, ANGELA’S ASHES is my second favourite JW score of all time, and “Angela’s Prayer” one of my top favourite compositions that he ever wrote. So that’s a VERY high bar for anything. But yes – I can definitely hear shades of his religious/pastoral sound after the AMISTAD “quote”, which is why I got excited for a moment. I doubt the rest of the score is like that, though.
4. June 2026 at 13:46 #11800Don’t get me wrong. This pointing out of similarities is in no way any kind of criticism from my end. It is usually my first reaction to any new musical piece to think about what it reminds me of. As soon as I got that out of the way, I can enjoy the new piece better on its own.
And there are worse references than Angela’s Ashes. As you may or may not remember, ANGELA’S ASHES is my second favourite JW score of all time
Of course I remember. Didn’t you just mention it this week in the listening project thread? It is definitely a great score. One of the few Williams works which has a chamber music quality to it.
4. June 2026 at 13:56 #11803This pointing out of similarities is in no way any kind of criticism from my end.
I didn’t take it as such, and it’s a perfectly natural thing to do. I do the same. For a second, I thought I was the first person to notice the AMISTAD reference, but then taking a brief look over on JWFAN put me firmly in place. I’m sure I’m going to review this down the line (as Alan says, any reviews posted in the next two weeks will probably just be gobbled up by all the chatter; difficult to stand out), and when I do, it’s absolutely crucial to contextualize it with previous scores it alludes to, how it fits in with his development over the last couple of decades and so on, before one touches on its idiosyncratic properties.
My guess? It will be a bit like A.I., WAR OF THE WORLDS, MINORITY REPORT…largely textural or rhythmical, or based around cells, but then with a gorgeous, HUMAN theme at its core (like those scores had “Monica’s Theme”, “Ray and Rachel” and “Sean’s Theme”). “Listen” will probably be this score’s “heart theme”.
4. June 2026 at 14:37 #11805Didn’t take it as critism, too.

Yes, don’t forget it’s good for internet/social media to ride/hook on current trends of interest! You can post it later but it will likey get less exposure from the algorithms. It will surely work in the so called long tail but that it will in any case.

Yeah, I expect that “modern” Williams to be present as well which I do like a lot.
4. June 2026 at 15:15 #11808Of course it has to be regarded in the row CE3K, E.T. and War of the Worlds as one of Spielberg’s aliens come to earth movies. Maybe even Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull should be counted in.
And I already like that the title theme doesn’t sound like any of these previous movies.4. June 2026 at 15:39 #11810Maybe even Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull should be counted in.
Although that technically were not aliens 😉
4. June 2026 at 15:46 #11811Although that technically were not aliens
Technically even visitors from another country can be called “aliens”. So, I guess this term also applies to extra-dimensional creatures. 😉

True, even we here are “aliens” for many 😉
The track is on Youtube now as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUk5dCRLC2s

Short video showing footage of the recording sessions.
4. June 2026 at 21:10 #11815Yes, I saw that video earlier. It’s a combination of sad/upsetting and uplifting.
The album has been made available for pre-order on Waxwork, and while the CD price itself is okay (€15, so about traditional full price), the shipping is insane (as usual) at €14, so the total comes in at about €30. That doesn’t include customs, so there’s €7.50 on top of that, making the total €36.50 / about 400 NOK. That’s more than I’ve ever paid for a single CD in my life, especially a non-boutique one.
But of course I must have it. I’m just contemplating waiting until it’s (hopefully) out elsewhere. Maybe Amazon, so I can combine it with other things to reach the free shipping limit. But waiting is risky.
