I slept the last two nights outside on our terrace. On a patio couch without a blanket. The thermometer did not once go below 30°C/ 86°F, which is highly unusual. At 5:30 a.m., I got up and went to my actual bedroom, but temperature was the same. I don’t mind heat, but 30°C/86°F at sunrise and hence lowest day temperature is quite hot.
but it’s the tropical 24C at nighttime that is devastating. I need my nights cool.
Yeah, we had a bit of thunder and rain this night but it really didn’t help. It’ not that hot anymore right now but more humid and I find that worse than just dry hot temperature.
It’s cooled down now to a nice 27°C/81°F with a light breeze, so it’s just about a perfect summer Sunday so far at half past ten.

At night? That’s crazy. I’ve too gone to great lenghts in the past, during hot tropical nights. Like a holiday at our summer house once, where I had to sleep on a couch on the second floor with three windows and one door open to get the slightest breeze that the bedroom didn’t afford. But I don’t think I’ve ever opted to sleep outside. Too many bugs.
I’m not really in a holiday mode yet, so I haven’t dug up some more “hot” scores for casual listening. I’m doing the collection walkthrough and listening to new scores, that gets first priority.
Yes, 30°C/ 86°F was the lowest temperature at night! That’s what the temperature was just before sunrise. That’s a bit too hot, I assure you.
I slept outside on our terrace, in shorts without a blanket. Fortunately, no bugs, not even a stray mosquito… these were certainly the hottest two nights I remember since I live here.Now it’s cooled down to 27°C/81° as I said, and even an ever so slight breeze, a perfect summer Sunday morning.
Last night’s temperature record in Germany even made it to Norwegian news (in a small blurb, but still…).
Oh, wow, but yeah, I can imagine it was a record, certainly for the low temperature. I mean, usually, it’s a hot day if 30°C/ 86°F is the high temperature… but two days in a row, this was the low temperature. It’s currently 32°C/90°F, but since there are some clouds and a light breeze, it’s quite nice and comfy now compared to how it was.
We’re right in the middle of a heat wave up here. Around the 30C mark (plus, minus) for more than 5 days. Very uncomfortable. But thankfully, it looks like it’s going to wind down a bit from Saturday onwards. Lots of rain on Friday, when we’re having our Zoom chat, which will cool things down a bit.
Can’t remember if we mentioned it before, but Quincy Jones (& co.)’s THE COLOR PURPLE is very sweltering, I’ve always thought.
Jones’ IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT always comes to mind by title 😉 We get around 30 today today as well but it is not really a heatwave and for sure not comparable with the last 40 degree one. Here inside its quite acceptableIt was only scratching the 30 the last few days and tomorrow is cools down a bit more even.
Yes, 40C is more than uncomfortable. It’s inhuman. I’ve only experienced that once, on a holiday in Egypt. Maybe in Thailand too. Terrible.
Goldsmith’s UNDER FIRE is another that comes mind. One of my favourites by him, and very suitable for hot summer days. Countless times in the past I’ve brought that along and played it on my discman while chilling in the sun.
These days, I neither use a discman, nor do I sunbathe. But I can still bring UNDER FIRE along on my iPod, for a chilled drink in the shade.
