Watching the T20 cricket match between Sri Lanka and England, there’s a trumpeter in The Barmy Army (the hardcore England fans who follow the team everywhere) who’s normally a bit of an irritant. It’s bad enough through the telly; imagine sitting just in front!

However, all is temporarily forgiven as he’s just launched into 633 Squadron.

Where have you come across film music where you wouldn’t normally expect it?

And for those who may be interested, England are 41-1 after 4 overs chasing 134. Going well, even though the game’s been reduced to 17 overs each, for reasons that I’ve missed.

Since when we’ve also been treated to Pink Panther and Green Hornet…

And England are 86-2 after 9 overs. A canter, you might think, but a couple of wickets would bring on a wobble.

I’m pretty sure that’s a sentence from Lewis Carroll’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND.

I don’t know anything about cricket (my only connection to it is the Bollywood film LAGAAN from 2001), but doesn’t a match last for days? Plenty of opportunities for film music cameos, I would suspect.

I, too, encounter film music in certain sporting events. Usually it’s played over speakers on the stadium, not as actual music in the broadcast. I’m trying to think of some examples off the top of my head…obviously Vangelis’ CHARIOTS OF FIRE and 1492 have been used many times. It’s one of those things I take note of when it happens, but then forget all about it afterwards.

It’s all wibbly wobbly timey wimey to me (to use another quote) 😉

My now 12 year old nephew loves doing small laser light shows as a hobby and I was surprised that he had choosen the Bond theme and the classic Miss Marple theme as music for some. And I had nothing to do with that.
