Thomas is a LFC fan, so maybe it’s understandable that he’s keeping a low profile at the moment šŸ˜• šŸ˜€

Well, I’m a Spurs fan, and I’m still here. Oy Vey.

I think your direct reach out helped Thor as it got me here. I am enjoying the discussions here a lot more than FSM – it is not what it used to be – and it’s definitely has a lot more zooba. Most of the discussion around new releases are – Ordered! and Shipped, and waiting for mine, or I haven’t got mine yet. And lots of Bond chatter which I expect more of soon once the Conti score drops – probably next month even – who knows.

But I know many folks are just creatures of habit. For example I have never signed up for JWfan – and have only been a couple of times over the years if I was really desperate for something. I suppose it’s a matter of personal taste and if there’s anything in for the user.

    Eyup, Kevin, lad.

    ā€œPeekerā€? I’m a well-respected member of the community, I’ll have you know.

    Yup. I think that’s a major hurdle.

I think your greatest aide in getting people over here Thor, will be Zooba!!
Although I imagine most of the new recruits will be non-Americans, as we know how ‘non-travelled’ they can be šŸ™‚

Zooba’s always been a little eccentric (bless ‘im!), but yes, I’ve noticed a rather mad posting spree in recent months whenever I’ve lurked over there, about the weirdest things (I don’t want to criticize him too much, though, because I’ve basically done the same here, albeit with slightly more curated thoughts, perhaps). In either case, people haven’t actually run down the doors over here…so far.

I’ve pretty much run out of things to say about the wacky world of soundtracks.

That’s a bit how I feel. There’s only so much to discuss. Most (not all, but surely most) people who collect film scores and discuss these topics online in forums have been doing this for a long time, in some cases decades. There’s only so much I have to say about a certain topic, and much of it has already been said. Just about all of the film scores I ever wanted (expanded) have had excellent releases over the years, some of them multiple ones, there are very few film scores from my want list “missing”. And I don’t have much new to say about “Alien” or “Logan’s Run” or “El Cid” that I haven’t already said somewhere at some time. Sure, new film scores are released to this day, occasionally interesting ones, but “the Net” serves here more as a source of information about new releases and re-releases. Still, if a discussion gets interesting, sometimes I chip in. šŸ™‚

I get what you’re both saying, I suppose I’m kinda similar having discussed film music online for 30 years now. But at the same time, if I have pet subjects, I can still go on about those forever and ever (especially meta subjects, or various aesthetic angles to our little niche). Also, sometimes I think it’s refreshing to completely re-set my mind and just attack an age-old topic from its basics up again. See, for example, favourite composers thread, or how you got into film music thread, or composer threads that start wide-open with a call for recommendations.

Super specific topics are interesting too, if that’s what needed for our weary minds who have talked about all. I challenge all you hardcore film music debaters to attack Dr. Jacoby’s thread on 1970s Post-“Jesus Christ Superstar” Religious Jazz Rock Scores, for example.

It would be terribly sad if online forums were reduced to information databases alone (I see this sorta happening on JWFAN and FSM, for example). I mean, I guess they’re useful for that, but it’s my LEAST favourite part of online communities.

I’ve been trying to work “behind-the-scenes” to recruit more members, but it’s proving difficult. I’m also running out of names, so any suggestions would be welcome.

Now, on most messageboards, you can view a public list of members. You can’t here, so I’m going to paste in the names below for status at the present time, for anyone curious:

A forum I run also does not have this. I don’t know if bbpress has something for this already but I certainly could write something to list all forum users.

Anway, not a bad number for a small – and fairly new – forum and the activity is not that bad as well. You need a multiple of that number to get a more decent activity. These things grow slowly nowadays. But we talked about this already šŸ˜‰

Sad to hear that one person from the list has passed meanwhile! We probably should put his account to lowest rank, just for safety.

Yes, Thomas Kiefner joined when the board was up for about a year in 2018, before it closed and then reopened last year. But by then, he was too ill to participate online. He posted once or twice here, but was more active on Maintitles (and occasionally FSM) in his day, as sdtom (“San Diego Tom”). He is missed.

@Thor You don’t have SigbjĆørn On the list. Has he left?

    #10320

Yes, he’s Svegge. Usernames are often different than how the names appear on the board.

Ah, yes, I remember a user sdtom on FSM.

For all the years I knew Tom it never dawned on me that the “sd” stood for San Diego!

    #10323

Yeah, I was actually supposed to have met him (as well as American Nightmare, who registered here recently) in my one and only visit to San Diego in 2012, but alas it never happened, for various reasons.
