Hi everyone, it’s Tom Servo, migrating over from the FSM board (which is honestly a shell of its former self ever since the update). Thanks to Thor for reaching out and asking if I’d like to join – so I did! I’ll try to contribute here as often as I can.

Good to see you here, Tom! There is actually a thread about Ifukube music/GODZILLA that Blaize started recently, on page 2. Worth checking out. It’s not something I know a lot about, but I always love learning.

Fantastic, thanks! I will look for that thread!

I am still here, although I don’t post that often.

Part of the reason is that I’m incredibly busy these days and don’t have much time to play around on the InterWebz, aside from the occasional thumbs up.

The other part of it is that, for whatever reason, I am less drawn to listening to film scores these days. Not sure why. I am watching more movies now than ever, thanks to streaming, but rarely do I hear a score in a film that makes me want to search for the album. I suppose if the score does not call attention to itself, that is a good thing.

I’m also buying far, far fewer LPs and CDs than I used to. I don’t hop on anything the day of release, because almost nothing sells out instantly anymore. I will occasionally spring for something I really want, like the new Ipcress recording. And even there, the main draw was that I had the original only on LP. (I’m not a big Barry fan, but that is easily my favorite of his.) If Quartet has a summer sale, I’ll probably pick up a few Italian titles that I may have missed.

Maybe I’ve hit a saturation point with LPs and CDs. Maybe I’ve realized that I will never have everything, and even if I did, there is only so much time and brain power to absorb everything. I can’t even begin to imagine the percentage of LPs and CDs I have that I played once or twice.

Still happy to discuss old favorites, though, and I’ve always liked Thor’s more conceptual questions and topics, which are neither genre- nor composer-specific.

I can understand that, Dr. Jacoby. In fact, we have a thread discussing just that – “Film music down periods?“.

And I also understand the point about saturation points. There comes a point where you just want to listen to what you have (like I do now, with my collection walkthrough project).

I can relate to the less buying which is partly saturation and partly budget limits that almost never make we want anything instantly. Somehow it is not that easy to get me exited anymore…

(Speaking of budget: BSX has just announce a 50% off specia, good chance to grab some of their downloads)

FYI, I moved the list of members to the first post for easier access. I’m tempted to add a couple of descriptive sentences of each, just to give a heads-up of who they are, but maybe that’s crossing a line. Maybe at a later time.
