Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterCurrently listening to Joel Goldsmith’s KULL THE CONQUEROR, and thought I would do a thread on nepotism. Well, not really, but what are some of your favourite scores by people related to famous composers/film composers?
I have a few to mention myself, but wanted to hear your thoughts first.

SigbjørnParticipantCarl Philipp Emanuel Bach, symphony Wq. 179.

Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterLOL! Yes, anything goes. Classical, pop, you name it.

SigbjørnParticipantIt’s excellent!

Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterI’ve heard of him, but don’t think I ever heard any works. Thanks for the link.
I’ve been following (sort of) the work of Gabriel Prokofiev in recent years, although the music has very little to do with his grandfather.

Malte MüllerKeymasterWe probably could throw in a bunch of Newmans here, too 😉

Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterIf people haven’t checked it out already, I recommend NAE PASARAN! by Patrick Doyle’s son, conveninently also named Patrick Doyle (Patrick Neil Doyle, to be precise). Very nice score.

Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterShout-out to VESELKA from last year. Made my top 10 of the year, scored by saxophonist David Sanborn (one last film gig before his death) and Ryan Shore, Howard’s nephew.

Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterCarl Philipp Emanuel Bach, symphony Wq. 179.
Speaking of Bach….he had 20 kids. Surely, there are some living descendants today that are also composers?

Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterAnother variation of this topic is when family members are involved in a production, like when Francis Ford Coppola used his father Carmine on a couple of films. Same with Spike Lee and his dad Bill early on in in his career. Or when daddy Marty Paich helped his sons in Toto on the score for DUNE.

Malte MüllerKeymasterThe Coppolas are a dynasty. Various relatives appeared in Coppola’s movies like his sister Thalia Shire or daughter Sofia Coppola. His uncle Antonio Coppola was also a composer but not sure if they worked together.

GerateWohlParticipantI find it interesting, that the wardrobes and costumes in seemingly all Cronenberg movies since forever were designed by his sister Denise.

Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterOf course, as I’m now at Mychael Danna in my collection walkthrough, we need to mention his brother Jeff Danna, whom Mychael got into film music – first to play guitar solos, later as a fullfledged composer collaborator. Listening to their work ALIAS GRACE as I’m writing this.

Nick ZwarParticipantThe Newman’s of course, that’s a given. Kyle Eastwood is also known Jazz Bassist and film composer (usually for his dad).
And there is Andrea Morricone, of course.

Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterChristopher Young has a new score out, a VR-style variant of the WOLVERINE VS. DEADPOOL ordeal? Sorry, don’t know the specifics, as I find most superhero stuff excruciatingly boring. But I DID notice that he scored it with his son Gil. Anyone checked that out?
