A couple of nice new releases. Especially BAD BOYS II by Trevor Rabin, as that is a premier release.
I have the 2007 single-disc of Mark Mancina’s BAD BOYS. Some tracks in mono there, but I don’t think I’ll buy the new one.
2. March 2026 at 21:33 #8678The theme is great, had that forever. Also sampled the previous release of the first. A little too «swish, boom, bang» for my taste, overall. Excessive length obviously doesn’t help.
But I’m curious about Rabin’s sequel, will check that out.
2. March 2026 at 22:17 #8680Also those great cues with acoustic guitar on BB1.
3. March 2026 at 09:07 #8682Although I saw the movies I have no real connection to the scores and don’t have anything from them. It’s really unfair but after his somewwhat nice hectic SPEED scores I somehow labeled Mancina as a kind of “Zimmer clone” though. Rabin never was in my focus actually…
(Somehow find both covers look a bit bootleggy :-))3. March 2026 at 10:53 #8683Neither saw any of the movies nor did I listen to the scores. But I assume it is the usual Jerry Bruckheimer bang boom zwoosh action soundscape. Not my cup of acid.
3. March 2026 at 10:59 #8685I thought he succeeded well in SPEED, though, with that main theme running through different kinds of modulations — in different speeds (geddit?) — depending on where we were in the story. But BAD BOYS didn’t have that quality to me.
I can’t remember if I talked to Rabin about BAD BOYS II in my 2018 interview with him, and I’m too lazy to double check right now, but we did discuss a few of those situations where he had to step in and take over things. Maybe we skirted the topic. But I’m sure the liner notes of the new release will reveal all pertinent details. Be sure to report back on that when you get it, Jon!
3. March 2026 at 15:54 #8695Well, i will not be buying it. 33 dollars plus shipping and tax is too much. It’s not a holy grail, after all.
And Rabin is not interviewed in the booklet. Weird.3. March 2026 at 15:58 #8696Neither saw any of the movies nor did I listen to the scores. But I assume it is the usual Jerry Bruckheimer bang boom zwoosh action soundscape. Not my cup of acid.
Not sure which Bruckheimer-films you have seen. Almost all his films have great main themes.
Had been great with a 2CD-set of “Music From The Films Of Jerry Bruckheimer”.

And Rabin is not interviewed in the booklet. Weird.Totally understandable. I’ll let you know if I get access to digital promos of these, hopefully with PDF booklets. Weird that Rabin wasn’t interviewed.
3. March 2026 at 16:01 #8698Yes. Both Mancina and Glennie-Smith are interviewed for BB1.
4. March 2026 at 10:20 #8704Also those great cues with acoustic guitar on BB1.
I’ve forgotten those. If I get that promo, I’ll give it another shot. Maybe it’s possible to whittle this down to a decent program with highlights.

Yeah, insane on the soundtrackcorner both cost 42.95 euros locally right away because of all that (21 somethingper CD is actually a fairly “normal” price though…………). Glad that they are not a priority for me 😉
4. March 2026 at 15:35 #8724Absolutely bonkers prices.

5. March 2026 at 19:30 #8766Hey Ruslan, why did you remove your post? Thought they were good opinions on the scores. Like you, I’m more curious about the Rabin than the Mancina.
5. March 2026 at 23:49 #8772Hi Thor!
That’s how I am, I write a lot first, and then I might delete it).
Regarding these two wonderful releases… I’m glad that Bad Boys will be re-released in an improved version. But I never really liked this score very much. The main theme is good, but the rest is a bit tedious to listen to. I’ve only listened to the entire score twice in my entire life.
But I’m especially happy and excited that Bad Boys 2 is finally coming out. I really like the cool mix of electronic/techno and orchestra in BB2. To my taste, the score is very dynamic and diverse. Much better than the first one.
I would buy BB2 without hesitation.6. March 2026 at 00:03 #8773I like your descriptions of the second. I’ve seen all the films, of course, but have no memory of the music as a whole, really. I’m going to give those guitar tracks from the first another go, but hoping Rabin’s are less «swish boom bang». 🙂
24. April 2026 at 22:13 #10480Hi, Guys!
I finally got to listen to the soundtracks for both Bad Boys movies. Bad Boys really does sound even better now—it’s in stereo and has better detail in the mix. For fans of the music from the first movie, this will be an even greater treat (especially the bonus/alternate tracks). But my opinion of the music from the first movie remains unchanged.
Bad Boys 2 is simply magnificent!! I’ll be playing this on repeat many more times! As I wrote earlier, the music is very diverse and dynamic. And in this new edition, it shines even brighter. I like that several other composers (including Mancini) contributed. Rabin’s tracks are awesome! But I also really liked tracks like Syd and Mike (Mancina)—very 80s-style: especially the electric piano, strings, and bass.
The track Causeway (Jablonsky)—so much energy and action.
As strange as it may sound, I really liked the track “Theme From Bad Boys (Bad Boys II Demo Version)” by Mark Mancina. I like this version of the main theme much more. It would be interesting to see what would have happened if Mancina had composed the entire score for the second movie…
Thanks to La-La Land Records for the release!26. April 2026 at 14:33 #10516I also sampled this awhile back, especially BB2. I was shocked to see how many composers were involved. Some highlights, some more perfunctory cues I could be without. I’m guessing it would be possible to make a smokin’ single album with both scores at about 40-50 minutes.
4. July 2026 at 14:44 #12445The expanded one of the first did just surface digitally it seems as I saw it on my public library streaming service. Just out of interest I checked lossless downloads: Qobuz for huge 40 Euros CD quality while 7digital it’s just 13.97 Euros. Whoever sets these prices…
