A couple of nice new releases. Especially BAD BOYS II by Trevor Rabin, as that is a premier release.

I have the 2007 single-disc of Mark Mancina’s BAD BOYS. Some tracks in mono there, but I don’t think I’ll buy the new one.

The theme is great, had that forever. Also sampled the previous release of the first. A little too «swish, boom, bang» for my taste, overall. Excessive length obviously doesn’t help.

But I’m curious about Rabin’s sequel, will check that out.

Also those great cues with acoustic guitar on BB1.

Although I saw the movies I have no real connection to the scores and don’t have anything from them. It’s really unfair but after his somewwhat nice hectic SPEED scores I somehow labeled Mancina as a kind of “Zimmer clone” though. Rabin never was in my focus actually…
(Somehow find both covers look a bit bootleggy :-))

Neither saw any of the movies nor did I listen to the scores. But I assume it is the usual Jerry Bruckheimer bang boom zwoosh action soundscape. Not my cup of acid.

I thought he succeeded well in SPEED, though, with that main theme running through different kinds of modulations — in different speeds (geddit?) — depending on where we were in the story. But BAD BOYS didn’t have that quality to me.

I can’t remember if I talked to Rabin about BAD BOYS II in my 2018 interview with him, and I’m too lazy to double check right now, but we did discuss a few of those situations where he had to step in and take over things. Maybe we skirted the topic. But I’m sure the liner notes of the new release will reveal all pertinent details. Be sure to report back on that when you get it, Jon!

Well, i will not be buying it. 33 dollars plus shipping and tax is too much. It’s not a holy grail, after all.
And Rabin is not interviewed in the booklet. Weird.

Not sure which Bruckheimer-films you have seen. Almost all his films have great main themes.

Had been great with a 2CD-set of “Music From The Films Of Jerry Bruckheimer”.

Totally understandable. I’ll let you know if I get access to digital promos of these, hopefully with PDF booklets. Weird that Rabin wasn’t interviewed.

Yes. Both Mancina and Glennie-Smith are interviewed for BB1.

I’ve forgotten those. If I get that promo, I’ll give it another shot. Maybe it’s possible to whittle this down to a decent program with highlights.

Yeah, insane on the soundtrackcorner both cost 42.95 euros locally right away because of all that (21 somethingper CD is actually a fairly “normal” price though…………). Glad that they are not a priority for me 😉

    Absolutely bonkers prices.

Hey Ruslan, why did you remove your post? Thought they were good opinions on the scores. Like you, I’m more curious about the Rabin than the Mancina.
