Interesting choice by Caldera, as usual — I didn’t even know there was an unused score for this film:

The interesting bit about this CD for me, however, is the selection from THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP. A fond film memory for me, and I remember liking the brief score in it. In fact, I recently mentioned it in another thread (the “film composers 85+” one, I think). I only have a theme on the Shire promo CD from the early 2000s, so I’ll definitely check this out.
Indeed nice, will also check them out. I don’t have many Calderas yet but I have the KILLER BEES one by Shire. 70s scores have a specific harmonic style that easily gets me. Have the other ones on my (long) list, too. Hopefully I get to them before they sell out (I regret apparently having missed Budd’S ZEPPELIN…)

I have that compilation, too! Didn’t listen to it for ages and forgot that there is one track already. I have a handful of others Shires. But TAKIN OF PELHAM is surely my favorite of all of them.
I also want this – and I have not seen any of the films.
I was sourcing most of my caldera releases from their ebay page – and will keep my eyes locked on it should they post some for sale there. Amazing to see so many Shire releases these past few years.
Ah Stephan chimed in over at FSM to report that their ebay store is dead due to changes in Deutsch Post – major bummer – it was good while it lasted, should have grabbed some more CDs.

Yeah, saw that as well this afternoon. I listened to the sample but sadly they didn’t grab. Some of the other scores release are more to my liking (I have the one with KILLER BEES actually so far). But I applaud getting such unreleased score out!
I had a listen to this yesterday.
I have to be perfectly honest and say that it was not quite what I had expected. I mean, it’s fine, but not on the level I had expected (perhaps based on what I’d heard of GARP on the old Film Music promo, and Shire’s general styles on that album).
KRAMER VS. KRAMER was a pretty nice chamber orchestra score. Not brimming with themes, but cautious colours for the intimate drama. I think I can sorta understand why they decided not to go for it, and use existing classical music instead.
The selection from THE DEFECTION OF SIMAS KUDIRKA was somewhat stark, but it has the best cue on the album in the brief, but excellent “Finale and End Credits”. Some cool rhytmical figures there.
I had the highest expectations to THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP, both because I have a fond nostalgic memory of the film, and that single cue on the promo. Well, I didn’t expect those carneval-esque waltzes and idioms; in my inner mind, I somehow remembered more downkey, lyrical writing with lots of woodwind.
Anyways, a pretty decent album. Not spectacular, but decent. But very cool choice by Caldera, as always, and an important release, historically.
