Latest score from Ben Frost – mostly known for their work on the Netflix series DARK, and 1899.

43 minutes and a stunning work.

I have seen the film twice, once a computer via a streaming link, and again this past weekend on the big screen at my local independent cinema in Ottawa. Really wanted to see it again after listening to a conversation with the director about the film taking 10 years to make. It’s exceptional, and the score is haunting and emotional.

If you have not seen the film, I highly recommend it – and if you have no plans to see it – please check out the score. I am hoping Invada does a CD release.

Thanks for the heads-up, Ryan. I like those deep, moody middle-eastern colours.

There are some interesting textures in DARK, although nothing I’d probably listen to alone. Very complex series! He also did great work on the enormously undderrated, Ridley Scott-helmed sci fi series RAISED BY WOLVES, pointing to the soundscapes – in particular – of Harry Gregson-Williams and Marc Streitenfeld on PROMETHEUS. As well as Baltasar Kórmakur’s THE DEEP way back in 2012 — the film wasn’t very good, but it allowed Frost to do some interesting things.

Not familiar with him and never got around to watch DARK… But will check it out!

Intesting that it was recorded in Qatar. Somehow matches that that Austin Wintory (I know he doesn’t do anything for you, Thor ;-)) recently also relased the game score THE HOUSE OF HIKMAH that was recorded “around the corner” Saudi Arabia with Arabian musicians. https://austinwintory.bandcamp.com/album/the-house-of-hikmah
