Two new projects for Hertzog. LION FIST, scored with Patrick Gill, and forthcoming docu KALARI KID: SHE HITS BACK.

    No word on albums yet.

Great to see the 77 year old composer still active, he hinted after LAST KUMITE in 2024 that he probably would retire.

Nice! I liked THE LAST KUMITE (I think I mini-reviewed it at the time), but it was too long and repetitive. I’ve whittled it down to a decent 30-minute program.

Whatever he hinted, the experience of LAST KUMITE clearly gave him some inspiration to continue. Very curious about these; both seem to be retro throwback martial arts things, though…would be neat to see him try something else for a change. But we take what we can get.

77 is no age for a composer as we all know 😉 His BLOODSPORT and KICKBOXER are great scores. I remember watching those a little silly Action 80s movies with a friend on VHS back then!

I peaked in THE LAST KUMITE but found it a bit too much like same as BLOODSPORT. Of course that was the point of hiring him and surely fun for him and all involve. But as much as I love hommages it sounded like his music didn’t evolve last 30+ years at all… But it’s been a while I listened to it.

I agree that the LAST KUMITE album was extremely repetitive.

DANGEROUS LOVE from 1988 is an example of a good PH score from a non-martial arts film. Sadly unreleased.
