I was always somehow impressed that three guys (one of whom was famous as a director, not a composer) were able to make this super elegant, sensual, fullbodied orchestral score when it came out in 2006. It sounded too unified as a vision to be by three different people, I thought. And to be performed by the Berlin Philharmonic and Simon Rattle, no less! Clearly, this was something special.
In 2012, in Krakow, I attended a live-to-picture concert of the film with the composers present (well, at least Tykwer and Heil, didn’t see Klimek). Live-to-picture concerts, as we discussed in this thread, was and is not my thing, but it did cement my opinion of the score as one of the best of the 2000s.
