Recommendations of online vendors?

Yeah, we talked about “random shop scanning” in another thread. Good times, and I miss them! But these days, I can neither afford nor ROOM random purchases. Even adding those “extra” titles to the order from Medimops was painful, even though they’re all great albums. It’s really ALL about the titles on the want list.

On the other hand, I still get a lot of PHYSICAL FILE titles in my collection, that could be considered “random”. Some new discoveries I’ve made, some promos etc. So I guess, in a way it’s just taken a different form. The only space limit now is the size of my harddrive(s).

Hello playmates!!! Just dropping by briefly. Apologies if this has been covered, but has anyone used Intermezzo in Italy? I saw some good things there at a “reasonable” price (don’t buy them before my pay day, you nasty blackguards), and because I didn’t see any online shipping info, I asked what the rates were. “10 Euros” was the reply. “Yeah, 10 euros for one CD, what about 3 or 4 CDs?”, I asked. “Still 10 euros.” I suppose I’ll find out if that’s true when I place my order next week. By the way, I think the guy (Antonio?) said that that was the rate for the EU, so no good for Thor, unless there’s a special case for EEA/Schengen countries.

Sigbjørn DID mention some experience with Intermezzo 9 days ago, on the previous page. Seems like he was satisfied with them. I’ve never done any business with them myself. I looked at their site just now, and have to say that their prices are steep. When sorted by “price”, the cheapest CDs come up at €15! No bargains here, it’s old-school full price and upwards.

I’ve just ordered four titles from Intermezzo. As you point out, Thor, the titles aren’t really bargain basement prices, but I got a few things which I hadn’t seen recently at other specialist outlets, titles such as THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK and CITY OF FEAR, both for just over 20 euros. Those euros mount up though, so the real bargain – which I’ve just had confirmed – is that shipping for the four CDs I ordered was only 10 euros. That’s where I imagine I’ll make the savings in the future.

Rarer CDs like those for around 20 Euros are basically bargains nowadays 😉

          #10582

I suppose they are, but not in “Thor’s Neverending World of 1990s prices and incomes”. 😀

Result of the “experiment” previously mentioned:

I received the package from Nick today (it actually arrived two days ago, but only got around to picking it up today).

My plan was perfect, I thought, but there was one thing I hadn’t foreseen – the amount of digipaks! Three of the albums (in fact all of the three items on my want list!) were digipaks, and you obviously can’t remove the cases of those to save on weight and height. And so we had to opt for a bigger package, and then we could just as well include the other CDs as well, without removing the cases. That means the shipping turned out to be just a little less than what it would have been, had I ordered it directly from Medimops to Norway (€20 as opposed to €25.50). But had they all been jewel cases, the plan would have worked – the shipping would have been €12 instead. (As it happens, Nick was gracious enough to sort out a deal with me regarding the shipping).

Thankfully, no customs. And the whole thing took about two weeks from order to shelf. I consider it a success story, all things considered.

But yes — I definitely learnt to check more thoroughly for digipaks now! That seems to have become the norm rather than exception, alas.

Great it did generally work out. We’ll see if we can repeat this with the 2nd test which will have a slightly different setup.

Lalaland offers 20% off until May 25th apparently. Not sure if that is of any “use” over the pond here…

              #10605

Even if LLL offered their CDs for free, it would be of no use to me. Shipping and customs alone are more expensive than I would pay for a CD.

As I touched on in the “favourite record label” thread, I have my issues with La La Land Records. I love their selection of titles, but don’t like their presentations (C&C). In an imagined scenario, if someone came up to me and said I could choose 10 LLL releases free of charge (encompassing shipping and customs), I could probably pick some titles nonethless, despite their presentation. Appears they have 713 releases, according to Discogs, so plenty to choose from. I know one of them would have to be SUPERMAN IV.

                Of course 😉

I have and am content with the digital download version of it which contains all expect the Paul Fishman songs. Sadly Superman II and III have no digital releases (III has but just the old album which I already have). Of course there are boots…

Listening to my CD-R of the old Japanese release of SUPERMAN II/III now, and sadly – at track 17, the old digital flutter rears its head again. This has nothing to do with ‘online vendors’, but since you brought it up, it was worth mentioning. It’s become worthless.

Too bad! You hopefully have imported it already?

                  #10811

Alas, no. I remember now that I tried back when I had a CD-ROM drive, but the flutter made me decide not to. Oh well. I know it’s in the “Blue Box” and has its own soundtrack release outside of that as well. So it’s retrievable. But it’s not a must-have for me. The Thorne variations of Williams’ material is nice (and I’d like the Moroder tracks from III, in particular), but not like SUPERMAN IV, which has brand new Williams compositions. THAT is a must-have.

Yeah, but it’s mostly Thorne variations besides that, too.

I don’t use Quartet Records’ store often but if THE IPCRESS FILE rerecording arrives tomorrow as FedEx says it should then Quartet is lightning fast in terms of delivery – I only ordered it this morning!

                      #10964

That’s fast. Do they have warehouses in Wales or something?

I think it’s just FedEx priority shipping – which is slightly more expensive than the CD itself!

Amazed that within 24 hours of ordering I am now listening to THE IPCRESS FILE.

Sent from Spain, I don’t think that I have ever had something ordered and delivered as quickly before.

                          Well done Quartet Records!!

                          #10994

Most impressive. I’ve never experienced that, not even when I’ve bought stuff from Norwegians. When all other things fail — meaning all of the “four threats” — it’s at least comforting to know that customer service is still a thing.

Feel free to start a thread on the album (or Barry) if you want to, and once you’ve sampled it. Or not. I think it was only briefly mentioned here before, in the “Intrada Kickstarter” thread.

Awesome, that’s really fast! They probably knew you would order it and sent it right away preliminary 😉 I never had this within Germany or even with the Soundtrack Club which was located right next to my city.
