I found that on some cinemas the sound is generally too loud and even distorted.
Yes to this! When I went to see The Odyssey it was just way too loud and the subwoofer was rattling something near the front, a loose chair, a door, something else…I couldn’t tell what it was, but it was really distracting and made me wish that I was watching at home. I do have a large screen w/ a projector though, so it does feel like a pretty immersive experience at home for me.
Even though I’m bummed about our local theater closing (mainly because I like to see the films I want to see asap so they don’t get spoiled by people online), I won’t miss hearing all the chomping of popcorn or slurping of drinks around me…won’t be missing that part of the movie theater experience, haha.
Have watched the new Spiderman as well. I really don’t know what to think, because my sons were so excited and liked it so much. In my eyes at first the movie was a big Palantir advertisement. Because Spiderman is using a big bunch of surveillance technology to supervise the city and hunt for criminals. And this is not questioned at all in the movie.
And I had a hard time to understand why Peter is staying away from his friends but at the same time following them permanently and using fake names. This made vrry little sense to me. Maybe because this is more common to do in the US than over here? I have the impression that we over here are much more stricter and concerned about such privacy related things… And that surveillance stuff is overly present and common for years in movies and serires (only think of 24!). And it rarely has been questioned (except maybe some movies like ENEMY OF THE STATE if I recall right).

And again Jean Grey was about to kill thousands of peaple. How often have ee seen that now?

They apparently tried to keep it a secret who this “Stranger Things” actress is actually playling as these specific comic “sub universes” are not yet tied together. Of course in times of Social media there is no escape of spoilers once the movie hits the theaters and you don’t live under a stone 😉
I just finally watched that BARBIE movie. I had it on my Netflix list a long time already and as so often now being marked as “leaving soon” I finally gave it a go. I do get all this society relevant nods and the candy color world was nice satirical with that “weird Barbie” vs shiny surface. A bit of self-aware toys a la TOY STORY meet MATRIX. But after all it didn’t really get me. In the middle I got even a bit bored because it was totally clear how it will end after Ken change their world… Not a movie I desire to see again.
I thought BARBIE was actually better than I thought it would be when I eventually saw it, quite a lot of fun. I didn’t think it would be actually all that good, but I ended up enjoying it quite a bit, with the classic “battle of the sexes” played out in a sharper and more astute way than I expected.
When I finally caught BARBIE, I thought it was awful. Really bad. I could not believe the hype and the box office.

Barbie wasn’t subversive in any way but straight fulfillment of marketing runbook with the usual Zeitgeist nodds. It didn’t surprise me at any moment.

We watched about 20 or 30 minutes of Barbie. That was enough.

Stylistically Oppenheimer felt like a 3 hour trailer to a probably 9 hour movie. Cut, cut, cut. Snippet, snippet, snippet. Maybe I am too used to the slow mini series storytelling style of Netflix or Amazon.

That phenomenon I often notice myself with new but sometimes also older movies I hadn’t seen a while. So used to that slow series style development that I sometimes wonder “what, that’s was all already?”
Presumed Innocent (Apple TV Series)
Very well acted series, which does take some liberties compared to the source novel (which I haven’t read, but read about), as well as the movie adaptation by Alan J. Pakula (which I like).But in the end, it’s not nearly as interesting as anyone involved seems to think it should be.
The TV series has some good stuff, but even though they had 8 episodes as opposed to two hours, the only characters that were actually fleshed out more were Nico Della Guardia and especially Tommy Molto (excellent: Peter Sarsgaard). And while Jake Gyllenhaal is an excellent actor, the way Rusty Sabich was written felt unhinged… I could believe that he’s a murderer, but it was hard to believe that he was the DA of Chicago!
The ending — changed from the novel and the Pakula film — was totally ridiculous, previous scenes from episodes earlier now make no sense. WTF?
And while the series was competently scored, the original film had an elegant score by John Williams, so it’s not even a close match there.
