Malte MüllerKeymasterYeah, of course.

Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterI was out with some old colleagues from my university days yesterday. I realize I just used the same amount of money on three beers and two glasses of wine as I would have on an order of four CDs from Amazon. But then the question is – should I have prioritized differently? I don’t think so. There’s no point being a hermite just because you need some stupid CDs.
6. February 2026 at 19:28 #8058
Malte MüllerKeymasterThe real question is: Are drinks and food too expensive or CDs 😉
6. February 2026 at 19:49 #8059
Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterThey’re both insanely priced.

Jon AanensenParticipantIsn’t there places for cheap 0.5 l beer in Oslo? Here I can get them for 69 NOK some places.
6. February 2026 at 20:18 #8063
Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterA few places, especially if you include happy hours. pilsguiden.no is a useful website. But mostly, it’s in the 100-130,- area. It was 99,- at the place yesterday (I didn’t select the venue).
7. February 2026 at 16:12 #8075
Malte MüllerKeymasterI know everything alcoholic is quite expensive in Norway. So 99 NOK would roughly equal 8.65 Euros. THat’s ineed more expensive than over here. Just to compare, over here you cab get a 0.3 ml beer for a bit over 4 euros and a 0.5 ml one for around 6 Euro. Depending on the brand and place naturally.

Thor Joachim HagaKeymaster99,- was actually on the reasonable side in this day and age. The average price for a 0.5 is 120 NOK, which is €10.50 (or $12.30). Ludicrous price in a ludicrous country.

Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterWell, tariffs are on the world scene again. Will it never end?
I still don’t know how this will affect CD purchasing and shipments across the Atlantic, if any.
21. February 2026 at 18:47 #8401
Malte MüllerKeymasterI guess it will never stop as long as a certain person is in power over there… I read however that the Supreme Court just said that some tariffs were not legal because they were set for the wrong reason… Probably will not make much of a difference…

Malte MüllerKeymasterAwesome that now even e-mail spammers have discovered that unpaid customs may be something to hook on 😉
4. March 2026 at 15:35 #8723
Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterYes, I’ve noticed a few spam mails like that. They’re the new “Nigerian prince”.
4. March 2026 at 17:30 #8725
Malte MüllerKeymasterYeah, but that prince at least wanted to give you some millions, right? 😉
4. March 2026 at 22:05 #8742
Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterRight.

Nicolai P. ZwarParticipantGood thing beer is considered a staple food in Germany. 🙂
5. March 2026 at 19:26 #8765
Malte MüllerKeymasterYeah, it’s fluid bread after all 😉

Malte MüllerKeymasterSeems the EU has decided that there will be an administrative charge of 3,- Euros for all packages imported witha value below 150,-. They also plan some custom changes that any package will have a customs fee.
This is aimed at the loads of very cheap China imports via Temu or Shein and such. But as far as I understood so fare it makes no difference from where the import is. Certainly will also make everything else more expensive…
29. March 2026 at 16:22 #9570
Thor Joachim HagaKeymasterThat’s irritating. Doesn’t apply to us, because we’re not part of the EU (although I wish we were), but it just adds to the threats. So that’s on top of regular customs, then?
I’ve been thinking of ordering some CDs now, since the exchange rate for the dollar is lower than it has been for a while (but still high, and it’s risen a bit in recent days). And exchange rate is one of the four threats. But even with that in mind, and the free shipping for $50 offer at Amazon, each CD remains expensive, and the customs rates on top of that are high. The goal is, as ever, to get a CD for what a full-price CD cost up to a few years ago. That is, about $16-17, max. Preferably a lot lower, of course (less than $10 in total). It’s proving very difficult.

Yes, for now until there are new custom fees in place. As far as I understood at least…

Probably soon transportation cost will kick in due to oil prices and such…
