Oh, dammit! He’s not in my top league himself but as you say he is everywhere on especially Zimmer’s earlier scores. I had to think of ROCK and that BEYOND RANGOON track instantly as well. THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK is a good score. Sadly a good occasion to listen to it again and the few others I have by him only.
19. August 2026 at 17:54 #13472Very sad news about Nick.
19. August 2026 at 18:08 #13473RIP John Irvin, director of films like RAW DEAL, HAMBURGER HILL and NEXT OF KIN.

Sorry to hear it. As it happens, WSA is just now releasing a Philip Glass CD in their composer series, and it includes the premiere release of the entire score for HAMBURGER HILL (which is very short – I think only main and end titles).

21. August 2026 at 05:58 #13480Yes, super sad about Nick Glennie-Smith. 🙁
22. August 2026 at 20:52 #13540Great Nick 2023 interview.
25. August 2026 at 22:05 #13623And now, Dolly Parton. Was never a big fan or anything, but she’s an integral part of my youth. In fact, most people’s cultural awareness, I would think. 80, not that old. Sorry to read it.
26. August 2026 at 08:10 #13624Yeah, you somehow could not not know her. I always found that she was a better song writer than actual singer. I only learned year later that that Witney Houston hit “I will always love you” which was overly present in my youth was actually written by her.
26. August 2026 at 17:56 #13652Tim Curry has died at 80. Most probably think of ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (which I never liked or even saw complete) but always have to think of him as clown Pennywise in the 1990 Stephen King mini series IT.
26. August 2026 at 21:50 #13658Damn…they’re falling like flies at the moment.
Tim Curry was an icon. His stint as the “Darkness” in LEGEND is the best bit for me.

Totally forgot he was in there as well!
28. August 2026 at 09:35 #13698The Norwegian king, King Harald V, died this morning, 89 years old.
Whether you’re anti-monarchy or not, he was the “glue” of the Norwegian royal house, and a very well-liked, unifying figure for the Norwegian people. Especially lately, when there had been so many issues within their ranks. He’s been the king all of my adult life — from when I was a young teenager in 1991 until today. I was also fortunate to meet him once.
I find myself quite moved by this.
28. August 2026 at 10:02 #13699Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi!
28. August 2026 at 10:18 #13700Sad news indeed, although we’ve known for several days this was where it was going.
RIP Harald V of Norway.
28. August 2026 at 11:32 #13702Sorry to hear.
28. August 2026 at 22:28 #13748I find myself quite moved by this.
Me too. More than I had expected. He’s been such a fixture in Norwegian society for 35 years, and with the way he’s been representing the country and his wonderful personality, it’s a huge loss. But I’m confident King Haakon VIII will do a great job also.
28. August 2026 at 23:20 #13750Condolences to the Norwegians reading this. There’s just been a fairly lengthy item about it on UK television just now.
29. August 2026 at 02:45 #13754RIP electronic music composer Robert Fox.

Thanks, TG. He was the second cousin to your late Queen Elizabeth II, I think.

All these aristocrates are connected, aren’t they? The British Royals even have direct German inheritance.
RIP electronic music composer Robert Fox.
Sorry to hear. But never heard of him. Any recommendeations?
29. August 2026 at 12:08 #13766I don’t know too much about Fox myself, but lots of stuff here:

11. September 2026 at 15:47 #13948Just two weeks after her younger brother King Harald V dies, Princess Astrid died today, 94 years old. None of you non-Norwegians know who that is, and 94 are great innings. It isn’t tragic that way. But still remarkable. Two days ago, she attended her brother’s funeral. And now she”s dead. I’ve always been fascinated by how spouses or close relatives follow each other in death, like they “will it” with their mind.
11. September 2026 at 15:56 #13950I remember seeing Princess Astrid at the hospital in Oslo some years ago. She sat there waiting for her appointment like all the other patients.
3. October 2026 at 21:41 #14687I’m very sad to learn that Italian film composer Marco Werba has died, only 63. Marco and I go back 25 years. In 2001, we got in touch via e-mail, and I offered to give him a “mini site” on Celluloid Tunes, in a section I then called “Up and Coming Composers”. For years, that was his site, until he got one of his own. We kept in touch occasionally via Facebook or mail after that, but I had always hoped to meet him IRL eventually. Perhaps if I went to Italy again at some point. Alas, that never happened.
Marco was a very talented composer with a very European sound. A bit of Delerue, a bit of Morricone. Often quite minimalistic and a bit stark. He worked with Dario Argento too. My favourite of his scores remains the beautifully religioso IL DIARIO DI UN PRETE (2003), but also worth noting are IL CONTE DE MELISSA, ZOO, AMORE E LIBERTA and GIALLO.
I had seen on Facebook that he had been in hospital a couple of times in recent years, but I took it to be something relatively minor. I didn’t understand the severity of it.
3. October 2026 at 22:04 #14689Werba has 21 upcoming projects on imdb. Impressive.
4. October 2026 at 10:23 #14693Awful, so early. I knew his name but he sadly otherwise is a complete blank page for me. Will try to listen to some of the recommendations.
7. October 2026 at 06:22 #147907. October 2026 at 10:14 #14791102 is very impressive.
I first became aware of her in GRAND PRIX, I think (which I saw before ON THE WATERFRONT and NORTH BY NORTHWEST).
7. October 2026 at 11:33 #14796I think it as NORTH BY NORTHWEST for me. Time to spin that Herrmann classic again as well.
